Do you realize that waking up every morning is a miracle? The simple act of breathing, swinging your legs over the side of your bed and possibly – hopefully – sliding to your knees for a morning prayer. Those three ‘simple’ tasks that we so often take for granted are actually miracles.
Some people can’t do those tasks so easily. Some cant do them at all. Well, see? When you look at it like that, it’s a miracle that you can do them.
And it’s not just those three tasks everyday. It’s walking. Talking. BREATHING. Smiling. Laughing. Lifting your head. Moving your arms. Crouching to scratch your pets head. Those are ALL miracles!
Whether we realize that or not is a whole ‘nother story. I, for one, know that I take most – okay all – those things for granted. Since it all usually comes naturally to me, I think nothing of it.
Well, when those things don’t come so naturally, you’ll understand what a true blessing/miracle they are. When I was ill a couple weeks ago, I was practically glued to the sofa. I didn’t have the energy to do pretty much any of my regular activities. It really put things into perspective for me.
And honestly, even thought I’m back to health, I still need to show more gratitude. I’m still taking things for granted because they’re back to coming naturally.
A little flower growing through cement. The sparkle in someone’s eyes when they have a genuine smile on their face. The pureness of an early spring breeze kissing the skin on your face. The innocent play of little newborn calves.
Everything is a miracle.
Look around you. I mean come on, you really can’t help but be baffled at God’s creations, can you? My mind is boggled when I try to figure out how He created all of this that we call life.
Yesterday late afternoon, I started the grill to grill hotdogs for supper. There’s five of us so I lot one out of three burners. Then a little whisper to light a second burner reached my ears. Turns out that mom wanted the whole package (10 hotdogs instead of 5) to be grilled. That little whisper from God was a miracle.
We’re trained – even if only subconsciously – to only notice the BIG miracles. Like someone being healed from disease with nothing other than prayer or money showing up miraculously when someone really needs it.
Yes, those are beautiful miracles, absolutely amazing. But there are SO many miracles that we receive or happen right under our nose that we don’t even realize.
So next time you start to take something for granted, pause and send up a prayer of thanks. When you wake up each morning, kneel for a few minutes and thank God for blessing you with another day.
Remember the simple things.
